Slat back chair with needlepoint seat (probably not original)
Chair was presented to WHS by Arthur Stocker of Charlottesville, Virginia. Arthur Stocker is a direct descendent of Colonel Joseph Williams, and one of the prominent men of Warwick in 1760. Chair once stood in the box pew of the Church of Warwick and was occupied by Samuel, the 5th son of the Colonel. The chair back is carved with the initials S.W.

Journal written in a Common School Writing Book
Journal is of the classes of Mrs. Henry Witherell, nee Harriet F. Bowman. Journal includes the names of the students in her first through fifteenth classes. She taught for 129 weeks and had 261 different scholars. Wages earned were $305.00.

Hinged wooden box with paper glued to outside with decorative motifs. Approx. 13" x 13" x 13". Label on lid says "Diaries of Wm. Cobb, Esq. 1803-1852. Presented to the Town of Warwick by his grandson, Geo. B. Cobb and by his great grandson Arthur D. Mayo. 1908".
The diaries themselves are in the vault in the Town Hall. A transcription by Beth Gilgun is available in the Warwick Library and online at http://whs.steamkite.com/sites/default/files/cobb.txt.

Doris and Cora (great grandaughters of Baxter Holbrook Worden - he was June's great great grandfather) have both identified the people in the picture as Baxter Holbrook Worden and his wife Ellen Marie (Grout) Worden. The children (as they seem to be all girls except the smallest baby) would be their first 5 children: Cora Elizabeth (b1870), Mabel Nancy (b1872), Mariah (Maria) Leonard (b1875), Hattie May (b1879) and Edward Burton (b1881). This would put the date of the picture as late 1881 as Edward Burton was born in April of that year. They also had a 6th child, Clifford Henry (b1889).

June van Alstyne has provided (via email) a copy of another photograph from the Worden family, showing from left to right Worthy George Worden, Marcus Worden and Baxter Holbrook Worden. Worthy and Baxter are half brothers. Both are Marcus' sons, but Baxter is the son of first wife Nancy Ann Ward while Worthy George is the son of second wife Phebe Lucinda Prouty.
